Special Issue in TBioCAS


AI-based Biomedical Circuits and Systems

In recent years, deep learning based Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been adopted in a wide spectrum of applications such as video surveillance, voice recognition, autonomous vehicle and computer gaming. Compared to traditional machine learning methods, deep learning is able to automatically extract the features from input data and achieve higher classification accuracy. Recently, AI has also been applied to biomedical applications such as smart ECG monitoring, brain-machine interface, and medical imaging to help improve the accuracy and intelligence of medical analysis. However, most of the existing work for AI-based biomedical applications mainly focus on the AI algorithm design. To meet the requirements on accuracy, performance and power consumption, co-design and optimization between the algorithm and the hardware are needed.

The purpose of this special issue is to report recent progress in the development of AI-based biomedical circuits and systems. It is also to provide a forum for the researchers on algorithms, circuits and systems design for biomedical applications to exchange ideas and knowledge. Manuscripts describing original research as well as reviews of emerging directions are solicited for this special issue, covering a range of topics including but not limited to:

  • Intelligent Biomedical Monitoring Devices
  • Advanced Biomedical Diagnosis Systems
  • Brain-Machine Interface Circuits & Systems
  • Intelligent Medical Imaging Systems
  • Smart Point of Care Systems
  • Wearable/Implantable Biomedical Devices
  • AI Algorithms & System Co-Design for Biomedical Applications

To be considered in scope, submissions to TBioCAS must demonstrate synergies between circuits & systems and biomedical applications.
 

The manuscript for TBioCAS must be submitted online using the IEEE TBioCAS Manuscript Template via IEEE Manuscript Central. During submission, the answer to question “Please select the issue to which you are submitting:” in Step 6 of the submission process, should be “AIBIOCAS19”.
